EU invests for faster, smoother connections on key transport networks

The Commission has approved three "major projects", together worth €161 million from the Cohesion Fund, for upgrading works along road and railway networks in the Czech Republic.

Almost 40% of them have been allocated to the first project that will focus on the modernization of railway sections, aiming at reducing commuting time for passengers and at ensuring a smoother connection between Prague and the German border. The project should be completed by the summer of 2017.

35% of the Fund will be allocated to the second project that will focus on the improvement of an important expressway located at the Padubice region.

Finally, 25% of the Fund will be allocated to the third project in order to upgrade the road section in the Moravian-Silesian region. The project aims at increasing the traffic capacity and ensuring better connection with Slovakia.

Czechs sorted out 417,000 tons of bio-waste in 2015

Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic introduced last year municipalities’ duty to ensure that citizens have option to discard the bio-waste. Thanks to that Czechs last year sorted out about 92,000 tons of bio-waste more than in 2014.

EU funds support sustainable public transport in Czech Republic

Czech Ministry for Regional Development (MMR) has ready 8,5 billion CZK from European funds to promote public transport. This amount is intended to be spent on building new transfer terminals, car parks or purchase low-emission vehicles. Applications shall be submitted through the Ministry for Regional Development (MMR) until 29th December 2017, minimum or maximum fund amount is not specified.

MMR announced two calls, both will encourage the construction and modernization of transfer terminals and autonomous parking systems, transport telematics (intelligent transport systems) for public transport, purchase of low-emission and zero-emission vehicles, reconstruction, modernization and construction of roads for pedestrians and cyclists.

Prague hosted the 2016 European Space Agency Living Planet Symposium

The 2016 European Space Agency Living Planet Symposium followed the previous successful symposia held in Edinburgh (2013), Bergen (2010), Montreux (2007) and Salzburg (2004).

The event was held in Prague, Czech Republic from 9-13 May 2016 and was organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic and the local support from Charles University in Prague.

Czech Minister of Environment signed the Paris Agreement on Climate change

Great news from Czech Republic! On 22nd April, Environment Minister Richard Brabec signed the Paris Agreement on Climate change on behalf of the Czech Republic at the UN headquarters in New York. The text of this historic agreement on climate protection was agreed by representatives of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change during their international conference which took place at the end of last year in Paris.

Czech Minister of Transport supported "Bike to Work" campaign

Czech Minister of Transport Mr. Dan Ťok joined in the "Bike to Work" campaign on 3rd of May, cycling approximately 30 minutes along the Vltava river to Ministry of Transport offices. “I consider Bike to Work as a very useful project. I have enjoyed the cycling however better city infrastructure would help a lot all the bikers.” said Minister Ťok.
