Contactless wristband tickets for Euro 2016

Transport operators have invented lot of ways for smart tickets integration. Mobile phones and smart cards consist ways for implementation smart ticketing in transport.
For the purposes of Euro 2016 France invented one new way for intergrading smart ticketing. From now on people can be transferred in Lille with a contactless wristband. Guests can buy this wristband from any Transpole kiosk and they can use use Lille metro, tram and bus networks till the end of Euro 2016.
Wristband based on the Calypso international contactless ticketing standard.

TRAINOSE restarts international routes

Are you afraid of airplanes? Do you hate buses? And why lots of people prefer trains even if in most cases airplanes are cheaper and faster?
First of all trains are cheaper for short distance travelling. Secondly railways have stable fares. Trains have the same ticket prices even if there are holidays, weekends etc. With train passengers can handle much more baggage than airplanes. Also most of the times train stations located in the centre of capitals. This saves passengers for taking a TAXI.

World biggest tunnel inaugurated in Switzerland

A new tunnel inaugurated in Alps. This new 57km long tunnel disappears Alps from railway maps. From now on movement of people and goods from North to South will be easier. Angela Merkel, Francois Hollande and Matteo Renci travelled together with 1000 passengers in this new trip. In the attached image, the first train, that comes out of Gotthard tunnel is shown.

Modernisation from Bulgarian city Plovdiv to Greek and Turkish border have been completed

Modernisation of line between Plovdiv to Turkish borders have been completed.
This work is part of modernisation of Corridor IV and IX.
European Corridors IV and IX are very important for Hellenic region because they are part of the trip from Greece to Central Europe. In modernized part of the line passenger trains can operate up to 160 km/h and freight trains up to 120km/h.

OASA Telematics – Information about public transport in real time

Real time information about public transport is important in urban areas where thousands of citizens travel by means of transport and especially when the congestion on roads can affect their transportations and consequently every planned activity. Therefore, taking into account this urgent need of accurate and direct information of passengers about means of transport, OASA developed the OASA Telematics application, which provides real time information about the city buses of Attica prefecture.

ENGATIA ODOS measures the environmental pollution

“EGNATIA ODOS S.A.” aiming to prevent and minimize the environmental and health impact will implement a new set of measurements related to environmental pollution using two mobile Air Quality Monitoring Stations in North Greece during June. Simultaneously, the company is trying to develop and implement a simulation model for the calculation of carbon footprint which takes into account the contribution of the road axis as a linear emission source. British Government is to spend £4.2 billion for greening UK railway

Greener railway is going to happen through high capacity electrification line from Yorkshire and West Midlands to South Coast ports. Electric trains enabling faster and cheaper trips for the railway operators. Minister believes that electrification will allow more freight tonnage in railways and they will reduce carbon emissions.

19th International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC 2016)

The IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference is the annual flagship conference of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society. This year, the Conference is organized by the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP) and Instituto de Ciências Matemáticas da Universidade de São Paulo (ICMC/USP) and will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on November 1-4, 2016. Deadline for paper submission has been set on June 13th, 2016.

Alstom testing hybrid trains on Romanian Railways

 
In Greece almost 50% of the main route Athens - Thessaloniki is electrified. In the middle of the route locomotive changes from Diesel to Electric so to finish the route. One solution for that problem is the hybrid train. Hybrid trains can operate with diesel and with electricity. Hybrid could run over electrified networks and in non-electrified sided networks in villages.

London Transportation agrees on using Android Pay

London transportation invests more in co modality. Transport for London from now on will be the first transport organisation which is going to accept Android Pay as ticket. From now on passengers can use their mobile phone to pay tickets and travel around London. From July 2015 London transportation also accepts Apple Pay. This happens with yellow card readers around stations.

Deutsche Bahn invests in long- distance high speed passenger trains

Deutsche Bahn is going to run a new investment for ICE trains by 2030. Trains will be faster, they will pass more frequently and in much more routes.
Everybody from railway industry has knowledge of the quality of ICE trains. High prices and the plane competitor shrank ICE market. Deutsche Bahn trying to recover the king of high speed trains and long distance passenger trains in general.
A new €12 bn investment by 2030 for ICE trains is going to run from Deutsche Bahn.Trains will be faster, they will pass more frequent and in much more routes.

Deutsche Bahn passenger App now offered for three more regions in Germany

Deutsche Bahn holds one of the most popular platforms for trains in EU region. DB passenger App added three new regions in this app. These are the regions Baden-Wurttemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.
In this app user can create communities so to travel together with low prices. They can rate ther fellows and they can add them as favourites. They can also set preferences in search of the right fellow.
The app was designed in cooperation with students from TU Munich. Since now app has 25.000 users.

IKEA and Nestle press EU for new laws on heavy duty truck emissions

Three of the biggest multinational companies keep together in the mission of emissions reduction. IKEA, Nestle and Heathrow press EU to find new laws in field of truck. According to three companies there is a small change in truck energy consumption in the last two decades. EU asked them to propose new standards that reduce fuel consumption in new trucks to implement them after 2020. Finally companies propose EU to introduce new fuel economy standards in next two years.

Rail industry associations presented the new Roadmap for digital railways

A future roadmap for digital railways was presented from UIC, CER, EIM and CIT on April 26, 2016. The aim of digital railways is to promote the use of digital technology so to increase rails performance and attractiveness.
EIM Executive Director Monika Heiming declared that "the challenge will be to develop collaboratively joint visions for the future versus silo thinking in the past".

Prague hosted the 2016 European Space Agency Living Planet Symposium

The 2016 European Space Agency Living Planet Symposium followed the previous successful symposia held in Edinburgh (2013), Bergen (2010), Montreux (2007) and Salzburg (2004).
The event was held in Prague, Czech Republic from 9-13 May 2016 and was organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic and the local support from Charles University in Prague.

ACEPT – AIR & NO2 ICAD: Innovative tools for measuring PM and NOx in air

The increased concentration of airborne particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the atmosphere of many European cities is still a major environmental problem.
Airborne particulate matter (PM) is a complex mixture of microscopic particles derived from natural sources, such as volcanic explosions, dust resuspension and pollen, and anthropogenic sources, such as transportations, combustion processes, processing of mineral and agriculture. They are responsible for various effects on climate, visibility reduction, acid rain and health effects, such as respiratory and heart problems and even cancer.

Czech Minister of Environment signed the Paris Agreement on Climate change

Great news from Czech Republic! On 22nd April, Environment Minister Richard Brabec signed the Paris Agreement on Climate change on behalf of the Czech Republic at the UN headquarters in New York. The text of this historic agreement on climate protection was agreed by representatives of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change during their international conference which took place at the end of last year in Paris.

The fourth Copernicus sentinel satellite, Sentinel-1B, was successfully launched!

The fourth Copernicus sentinel satellite, Sentinel-1B, was successfully launched from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana on 26th April at 23:02 Brussels time (22:02 GMT). The 2.3 tonne unit lifted off on a Soyuz rocket that delivered the European Union satellite into orbit at a height of 693km. Sentinel-1B is now orbiting around the Earth, with a 180° orbital phasing difference with its twin brother, Sentinel-1A, which was launched 2 years ago.

Czech Minister of Transport supported "Bike to Work" campaign

Czech Minister of Transport Mr. Dan Ťok joined in the "Bike to Work" campaign on 3rd of May, cycling approximately 30 minutes along the Vltava river to Ministry of Transport offices. “I consider Bike to Work as a very useful project. I have enjoyed the cycling however better city infrastructure would help a lot all the bikers.” said Minister Ťok.

After two years of development, the world’s first Euro 6 double-deck gas-powered bus is set for final testing from SCANIA.
The world’s first Euro 6 double-deck gas-powered bus will now undergo two months of tests ahead of delivery to the British market, slated for later this year. The bus, developed by Scania and assembled in the United Kingdom by mi Vehicle Integration Limited and Alexander Dennis Limited (ADL), recently arrived at the Port of Gothenburg before being driven more than 400 kilometres to the Scania Technical Centre in Södertälje.

The CIVITAS Initiative is running a three-day summer course from 7 - 10 June in the Spanish city of Málaga.
The course will look at sustainable urban mobility in the context of quality of life in cities. There is great potential for sustainable urban mobility to contribute to making cities more pleasant places in which to live and spend time, with positive impacts on the environment, local economy, and even the physical and mental health of residents.

The restart of Thessaloniki metro



The construction of Thessaloniki Metro has been a sore issue for years. After many delays a new period started a few days ago as the construction works restarted after four years. The Greek Minister MrSpirtzis in the presence of the General Secretary of Ministry Mr. Dedes and the President and the Managing Director of Attiko Metro Mr. Milopoulos and Mrs. Papadopoulou announced the beginning of the works and their completion by 2020.

CityMobil2 Final Conference

After nearly four years of demonstrating fully automated road transport systems in 7 towns and cities across Europe (Saint-Sulpice, La Rochelle, Trikala, San Sebastián, Casa, Vantaa, Oristano), the CityMobil2 partners would like to share the projects results and their thoughts for the future deployment of these systems. New Railway Traffic Control Centre started operation in Prague

The Czech Railway Infrastructure Administration festively completed the construction of technological premises for a new Traffic Control Centre in Prague. This project creates prerequisites for gradually introducing centralised remote traffic control within the whole Czech railway network.
