European Commissioner for Transport and Mobility Violeta Bulc launched 15 projects co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility programme (CEF) at the Digital Transport Days in Tallinn last week. The projects are expected to develop digital solutions and upgrade the European rail, road, maritime and air transport network. These projects were selected for funding via a competitive call for proposals that will in total invest €2.7 billion in 152 key transport projects across the EU.
Three of the funded projects will receive nearly a total of €300 million to modernise and harmonise the air traffic management system across Europe. Also, the CEF programme will support one of the selected projects - NEXT-E - with €18.8 million to develop a network of 250 fast and ultra-fast charging stations along the main roads of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and Romania. In addition, three projects will receive over €10 million to deploy the common European rail traffic management system in various EU Member States.
Seven of the EU-supported projects will bring new Member States into the family of C-Roads platform, a pan-European initiative deploying the Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) services for a safer and more efficient road traffic management.
