The municipality of Slovenj Gradec in northern Slovenia has won the 2016 European Mobility Week award for its work on transforming areas with traffic into areas for pedestrians and cyclists, and for actively involving citizens in these activities to help improve their quality of life.
The municipality is also working on creating safe routes to school, and is involved in drafting an integrated transport strategy. Slovenj Gradec’s focus during the European Mobility Week was to promote the idea that sustainable urban mobility has a positive impact on the local economy.
