The new trend for all transportation companies is to reduce oil and diesel consumption and replace it with “greener” one like electrical energy, biodiesel and hydrogen.
Now, good news comes from Latvian Railway –LDZ. LDZ, CZ Loko and Ballard Power Systems signed a memorandum of understanding for producing a hydrogen fuel cell locomotive using components from an old CME3 diesel shunting locomotive.
Now, good news comes from Latvian Railway –LDZ. LDZ, CZ Loko and Ballard Power Systems signed a memorandum of understanding for producing a hydrogen fuel cell locomotive using components from an old CME3 diesel shunting locomotive.
The three parts believe that this upgrade will offer reduced noise, vibration and zero emissions at the point of use.
This is not the first time that these three companies reconstruct something. LDZ and CZ Loko have rebuilt a CME3M diesel shunting and 2m62 main line freight locomotives.
LDz Ritosa Sastava Serviss will rebuilt the locomotive, CZ Loko is going to develop the designs and provide components and Ballard Power Systems will supply the hydrogen fuel cell technology.
